Photography III Show
"Handwritten"
Artist Statement
The idea behind this show is creating photo shoots inspired by original songs written by the artist. The songs are called A Letter To My Anxiety (Just Breathe) and Metaphysical Debts. Metaphysical Debts explores the complexity of spiritual consequences in context of a romantic relationship and the question of should resilience occur in seeking to keep a relationship alive or giving it up to pursue a potentially higher purpose. It is also subtly a realization of Gods light and truth by experiencing the darker elements in life. Just Breathe is a song of affirmations, it is a very simple song purely written as a reminder of hope and truths meant to keep anxieties of abandonment at bay and a way of confronting ones own antisocial behavior.
The images are displayed in books cut to function as frames in order to symbolize the personal and confessional nature of the art, like journal entries. The coloring in the Metaphysical Debts photoshoot are darker toned, to emphasize the darker tone and feelings of confusion or desperation in the song. The galaxy overlay and projector images are in reference to the spiritual and the greater context the relationship between two individuals falls into. The coloring and the tulle in the Just Breathe photoshoot are meant to show the fight with and the release or letting go of anxiety and old haunts. The river is meant to refer to the ever present rustling that goes on inside the minds and bodies of those who struggle with anxiety and at the same time is a reference to baptism and the atonement as a means of letting those fears and anxieties go.
